Lake Naivasha
Nakuru County / Naivasha, Great Rift Valley
About Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake ringed by acacias, lodges and farms. Boat trips offer close views of hippos, fish eagles and a rich mix of waterbirds. Unlike many game parks, Naivasha is also a leisure destination — perfect after denser safari circuits.
Nearby Hell’s Gate National Park is known for dramatic cliffs, geothermal scenery and cycling or walking experiences (conditions and regulations apply). Crescent Island is another popular option for guided walks among free-ranging herbivores.
Naivasha works beautifully as a first or last night from Nairobi, or as a soft adventure stop between Nakuru and the Mara.
Best time to visit
Pleasant most of the year. Dry seasons are comfortable for outdoor activities. After rains, birdlife can be excellent and the landscape greener.
