About Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara is the northern extension of Tanzania’s Serengeti ecosystem and one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations. Open grasslands, seasonal river crossings, and high predator density make it exceptional for game viewing year-round.

Between roughly July and October, wildebeest and zebra pour into the Mara in search of fresh grass — the famous Great Migration. Outside migration season, resident lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes and vast birdlife still deliver world-class safaris.

Visitors typically base themselves in tented camps or lodges near Keekorok, Talek, Sekenani or the Mara Triangle, with morning and afternoon game drives. Cultural visits to Maasai communities can be arranged respectfully through local partners.

Best time to visit

Wildlife viewing is excellent all year. Peak migration drama is usually July–October (dates vary with rainfall). January–March is often good for calving in the wider ecosystem and clear skies. April–May can be greener with fewer crowds.
